Believe it or not, a classic PSP game is making its way to its more modern sister console. Patapon 2 Remastered has been officially announced for the PS4 — and you’ll be able to play this beefed-up version of Patapon 2 in just a few days.
A post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that Patapon 2 Remastered has been in development for some time and is now fit to be revealed. Even more surprising is the release date: January 30, 2020. That’s less than five days away!

If you happen to be unfamiliar with the Patapon franchise, it’s a strange mix of rhythm game and combat game. Players have to hit controller buttons in time with the beat in order to get their Patapons to move and attack massive enemies. That’s not to say that this is a simple arcade game, though — you’ll also have to carefully and strategically select which Patapons you’ll be taking into battle with you as different situations will require different types of Patapons.
The original Patapon got the remastered treatment back in 2018, so it stands to reason that the sequel would follow in its footsteps. Players will be able to enjoy more than 30 missions which will include hunting missions, escort missions, and boss battles. They’ll also be able to explore the game’s strange, colorful environments along the way!
Following a Kraken attack on their ship, the Patapon tribe are shipwrecked in a strange new land. You must lead them into battle, encountering new allies, new enemies, and a bunch of scary new bosses in the search for the promised land of Earthrend.
If this sounds like your kind of jam, you’ll be able to get Patapon 2 Remastered exclusively on the PlayStation Store on January 30, 2020, for $14.99 or your regional equivalent. Do note that while this does support 4K, you’ll need a PS4 Pro and a capable TV to enjoy it in the resolution. In the meantime, you can pick up the remastered version of the first Patapon on the PlayStation Store at the same price point.
