Geoff Keighley passes on producing E3 2020 Coliseum show

The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley has announced that he “will not be participating” in E3 2020 Coliseum. In fact, he won’t be participating in the show at all for the first time in 25 years.

Mr. Keighley put out a tweet which details his decision.

“I’ve debated what to say about E3 2020,” a portion of the statement reads. “While I want to support the developers who will showcase their work, I also need to be open and honest with you, the fans, about precisely what to expect from me.”

“I have made the difficult decision to decline to produce E3 Coliseum,” the statement continued. “For the first time in 25 years, I will not be participating in E3.”

One might wonder if his involvement with The Game Awards made him too busy or if it was something else entirely. Geoff Keighley has been responding to fan tweets on the issue, confirming and denying several points.

Mr. Keighley will definitely be doing Opening Night Live in August at Gamescom. He also confirmed that money wasn’t the problem, stating that “honestly didn’t even get that far” in their discussions about the upcoming show.

So far, his most substantial response to the decision to decline working with the E3 team is summarized in one more tweet. One Twitter user asked him what led to the decision to not participate in this year’s show, and his response is somewhat disquieting.

“A ton of factors, I just don’t really feel comfortable participating given what I know about the show as of today.”
