Every year, the game engine company Unity shows up to GDC in force with dozens of panels and other events. Unfortunately, GamesIndustry.biz reports that they are canceling this year’s appearance due to the coronavirus situation that’s currently going on around the world.

“Unfortunately, this year, after much thought and deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to pull out of GDC 2020,” the announcement from Unity stated. “While we did not make this decision lightly, the current conditions with COVID-19 (also known as Novel Coronavirus) present too much risk. We take our employees’ wellbeing very seriously. We do not want any Unity employee or partner to compromise their health and safety unnecessarily.”

The company had quite the showing at GDC 2019 and had similar plans for its Unity GDC 2020 presentations. More than 30 panels and presentations were planned; the company will now livestream this content online in lieu of doing it live at the show.
