Death Stranding Denuvo DRM Steam Epic Games Store

Death Stranding Denuvo DRM sours PC announcement

The recent announcement of the Death Stranding PC release date is happy news for many gamers, but a scan of the game’s Steam Store page has revealed some bad news. Death Stranding Denuvo DRM protection will be included with the game and fans are already getting upset.

A submission on the /r/pcgaming subreddit announced the bad news. It’s written plain as day on the game’s Steam Store page:

  • Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo
  • 1 machine activation limit

However, the Steam description was subsequently updated to remove the “1 machine activation limit” qualification.

Strangely, the Epic Games Store page doesn’t list the inclusion of Denuvo DRM on its store page. As a point of comparison, Borderlands 3 uses Denuvo DRM on the Epic Games Store and mentions it on the Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store page. We’ve reached out to Epic Games to get some clarity on the matter

Fans’ reaction to the inclusion of Death Stranding Denuvo DRM has been less than stellar.

The Reddit /r/pcgaming comments are somewhat more tempered.

“Kind of figured this would happen,” stated a comment from /u/anisewah. “Japanese studios have all seemed to agree that its a good idea to use Denuvo despite it mostly being useless the last two years. I [wasn’t] going to buy it for a year anyways, like [I] do for all games, til it was on a decent sale and by then it may be removed.”

“The people applauding the inclusion of Denuvo in their games are out of their f***ing minds,” /u/AlexanderDLarge said in the submission’s top comment. “I really question the psychological process that goes into defending corporate interests to the point where it opposes your own as a customer.”

You can play Death Stranding on PC on June 2, 2020.
