The Last of Us and Chernobyl writer lists his favorite games with unsurprising number one

Video game adaptations are in a new era. Whereas they used to be handled with little or no claim to the video game industry, they’re now being handled with respect to their source material. And not only is The Last of Us TV show being helmed by the series’ creative director Neil Druckmann, it’s also being written with another one of the game’s fans, Craig Mazin. Mazin revealed this by listing his favorite games of all time as well as generally talking about his other favorite titles.

Mazin, also known for creating the hit HBO mini-series Chernobyl, took to Twitter to list his favorite games of all time. And unsurprisingly, a certain Naughty Dog title was at the top. His favorite games are:

  1. The Last of Us
  2. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Skyrim
  3. Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5
  4. Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4
  5. Goldeneye 64
  6. Super Mario 64
  7. Bioshock
  8. Mass Effect trilogy
  9. Red Dead Redemption
  10. Half-Life
  11. Portal and Portal 2
  12. Batman: Arkham City
  13. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  14. Star Raiders (1979)
  15. Dishonored 2
  16. The Bard’s Tale (1985)

It’s mix of old and new, but Mazin didn’t stop there. Among a slew of other games, he spoke about his love for The Witcher 3, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed OdysseyRed Dead Redemption 2, MLB: The Show, Borderlands 2, the first two Max Payne games, ShadowgateUncharted 4, and Telltale, but didn’t specifically list any of his favorite Telltale games. However, he has sadly avoided playing Horizon Zero Dawn, but plans to get to it after he finishes The Last of Us 2, which isn’t coming out until May 29. He also didn’t love Breath of the Wild, but don’t make him feel bad about it.

Even though his work crafting a dark world in Chernobyl makes him a decent fit, his obvious and longstanding love for medium seems to make him a great partner for The Last of Us‘ HBO series.
