Permadeath Added To Batman Arkham Origins, Get On Thomas And Martha’s Level

In addition to story-expanding downloadable content details, Batman Arkham Origins producer Guillaume Voghel told attendees of Eurogamer Expo 2013 that the new Batman game from WB Montreal will include a permadeath mode called "I Am the Night."

Players will have one life as the caped crusader to survive an onslaught of assassin's tempted by Black Mask's bounty on Batman. You can save your game in this mode, but if you die (my understanding is that) your save will be erased.

Players have to beat the game on one of the open difficulties before unlocking I Am the Night. Voghel said that Arkham Origins offers up 12 hours of narrative and side missions in addition to New Game Plus, which allows you to reply the game with the enhancements you unlocked in your previous play through. I Am the Night will be available for play in both normal modes and NG+.

The aforementioned story-mode DLC takes Bruce Wayne to Asia. "You play as Bruce Wayne learning to be a ninja," said Voghel. "Narratively there's some added content that will give players a little more background story."

While there are still several weeks to release, I prefer this method of planned DLC fulfilling a "Season Pass" as opposed to DLC from Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us taking its sweet, sweet time to appear months after release.

Batman Akrham Origins lands on October 25th for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. Nick Tan previewed the new multiplayer mode at its announcement, but Wii U gamers should note that their version will not come with multiplayer (and cost $10 less).

Arkham Origins also featured in our 7 Current-Gen Games To Remember and won a Best of E3 award from us earlier this year.
