PS5 reveal event postponed to unspecified date

Despite the anticipation leading up to it, Sony has delayed the PS5 reveal event. Originally scheduled for June 4, the hardware giant has pushed the console’s debut stream, but did not specify its new date. The company cited that it wanted to “stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

The official PlayStation Twitter account tweeted the message just three days before the event was originally scheduled.

“We decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4,” said Sony in its tweet. “While we understand games worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

Sony is referring to the protests over police brutality currently sweeping the United States. The company, along with a few others, also tweeted its support for #BlackLivesMatter earlier today as well, denouncing systemic racism and welcoming in inclusion.

While the reveal was shaping up to have some slick reveals like a potential new Silent Hill or Horizon Zero Dawn 2, sometimes it’s worth it to remember that video games aren’t everything and that there is a time and place for everything. Sony is not alone in this either as EA is delaying its Madden 20 reveal in wake of the protests, which is a little odd since the publisher originally censored Colin Kaepernick’s name in last year’s version of the game, only to apologize for its “unfortunate mistake” later on.
