It looks like the Microsoft Store slipped up once again — a new Star Wars game appears to have been revealed early. Star Wars: Squadrons is an upcoming game in the Star Wars franchise, presumably launching for the Xbox Series X at some point in the future.
A banner image on the Xbox website shows a Rebel pilot and an Imperial pilot on the background in the style of some older Star Wars posters. In front of them, we see X-Wings, Y-Wings, and other ships charging into battle against TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptors, TIE Bombers, and other ships. Presumably, this upcoming game is going to be a space combat fighter game similar to Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
ALSO: Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefield Steam releases have arrived
We haven’t heard a peep about this game before today. The banner implores people to Pre-Order the game before it launches, but that just takes us to a dead page that doesn’t exist at the moment. I took a quick look at the source code of both the Xbox frontpage and the non-existent game page for Star Wars: Squadrons, but neither revealed any substantial information.
It appears that the banner was accidentally added to the Xbox front page without the rest of the game’s information. (We have, however, captured a snapshot of the Xbox front page showing the banner in case it goes away.)
Unfortunately, we don’t have much more in the way of concrete details just yet. That said, we can safely speculate on some things. Considering the art and the name, I think it’s a pretty safe bet that this is going to be a space combat fighter game of a sort. There are still several big questions to consider:
- What ships will be in the game?
- What era or eras will Star Wars: Squadrons be set in?
- Is this launching for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or both?
Hopefully, we’ll find out the answers to these Star Wars: Squadrons questions sooner rather than later. For now, we can at least be happy that a new Star Wars game is on the way.
