Rumor: Ubisoft will reveal new battle royale game Hyper Scape today

Ubisoft is reportedly working on a brand new battle royale game called Hyper Scape, which is allegedly set to be revealed soon. It is also claimed that the game will receive a stealth launch, similar to EA and Respawn‘s Apex Legends.

The rumor stems from video game historian Liam Robertson and esports journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau, who report that the game will receive a stealth launch and it will also be revealed later today. Breslau has claimed that the game will be a “AAA multiplayer fast-paced FPS battle royale” that will be created by Rainbow Six and Assassin‘s Creed developer Ubisoft Montreal.

According to the rumors, the free-to-play game will be set “in a futuristic virtual world” and will release on both PC and consoles, with its console launch taking place later this year. A full launch is expected for July 12, while a closed beta will reportedly launch next week. Slasher released a logo and a screenshot (pictured above) seemingly taken from the unannounced game.

This isn’t the first time that this project has been rumored. Back in 2018, GameReactor reported that The Division 2 developer Massive Entertainment was working with Ubisoft on a battle royale game, which it was developing alongside its loot shooter sequel at the time. Ubisoft neither confirmed nor denied the speculation.

Ubisoft has mostly avoided the battle royale genre despite plenty of other companies jumping on the bandwagon. In early 2020, it released Might and Magic: Chess Royale, though it hasn’t ventured into the shooting-focused territory popularized by the likes of Fortnite. We’ll have to wait and see if these rumors are correct, but the screenshot and logo reveal suggests there’s weight to this speculation.
