Suikoden creator launches Kickstarter for spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle

The creators of the Suikoden franchise have created are taking to Kickstarter to raise funds for a spiritual successor to be produced by their new team, Rabbit & Bear Studios. Eiyuden Chronicle will feature some of the same elements that fans loved about the Suikoden series, though it will obviously take place in an entirely different universe.

It’s been 14 years since the last main series entry of Suikoden released, and no RPG has captured its essence since. The hook behind Suikoden, and one that’ll be replicated in Eiyuden Chronicle, is the massive cast. Suikoden series creator and lead on Eiyudan Chronicle Yoshitaka Murayama stated there would be 100 unique heroes available to recruit. This seems to indicate that the player will also have a headquarters, another staple of the Suikoden series.

Bear & Rabbit Studios describe the premise of Eiyuden Chronicle as:

Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of nations with diverse cultures and values. By dint of sword, and by way of magical objects known as” rune-lenses,” the land’s history has been shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people who live there. The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses’ magic. Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will expand their power even further. It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends. However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.

The Suikoden series, especially the second entry, has a cult following. However, its niche status means Bear & Rabbit may have issues fulfilling its Kickstarter. Hopefully, the fanbase will come together and make Eiyuden Chronicle happen when the Kickstarter goes live on July 27.
