Doom Eternal Switch PS5 Xbox Series X ESO free upgrade portal

Doom Eternal Switch still isn’t announced as PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are confirmed

If you’ve been waiting for Doom Eternal Switch, you’re going to be disappointed — Bethesda still hasn’t announced that version of its thrilling first-person shooter. That said, there is still some pretty good news: The Elder Scrolls Online and Doom Eternal PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are on the way.

As with most of this year’s major releases, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are important considerations. These new consoles are coming sometime later in the year, and Bethesda Softworks has committed to bringing two of its biggest blockbuster titles to next-gen consoles. Best of all, current owners are going to get a free upgrade.

“Players who own or purchase either title on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade for free to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions, respectively, when those versions are available,” reads a news post on Bethesda’s website. “Additionally, our teams are working hard to ensure both titles will support backwards compatibility when the new consoles launch.”

These aren’t just going to be next-gen ports, mind — Bethesda says that both games are going to get some sort of unspecified enhancements. No release window for these titles has been announced just yet.

While this new information is certainly great, the continuing lack of Doom Eternal Switch news is certainly disappointing to fans who own 2016’s Doom on Switch. It should be noted that it took a year and a half for the previous Doom game to make it to the Nintendo Switch. If we go by the same timeline, we may have to wait until around September 2021 to play it on Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console.

That said, GameStop is a bit more hopeful — they have Doom Eternal Switch pre-order listing with an anticipated release date sometime this year. Perhaps Bethesda will surprise us — after all, Bethesda has promised us “a few fun secrets” for Quakecon 2020 starting on August 7, 2020.
