Star Citizen Ship Showdown Free Fly

Star Citizen Ship Showdown free fly event gives players two weeks to check out the game with no commitment

Buckle up, space cowboys. Star Citizen is hosting a two-week free fly event to commemorate the second annual Ship Showdown. From now until September 23, Star Citizen is free-to-play, and all 16 ships in the Ship Showdown are available to fly for all players.

The second annual Star Citizen Ship Showdown brings the 16 top voted ships into the ring to duke it out for which is best. Each day, a pair of vessels compete to see which one gets the most votes. As ships win, they move up the brackets until two are left. Anyone who owns a ship that makes it to the Final Four and the Champion will receive in-game prizes for them later this year. On September 24, the winner will be crowned.

The vessels that are facing off are:

  • Aegis Avenger Titan
  • Aegis Eclipse
  • Aegis Gladius
  • Aegis Hammerhead
  • Aegis Reclaimer
  • Anvil Carrack
  • Anvil Valkyrie
  • Banu Defender
  • Drake Caterpillar
  • Drake Cutlass Black
  • Esperia Prowler
  • MISC Prospector
  • MISC Razor
  • MISC Reliant Kore
  • Origin 890 Jump
  • RSI Constellation Andromeda

In addition to the free fly, more surprises are coming. According to the blog announcing the event, players can look forward to discounted starter packs, referral bonuses that’ll net you a free P52 Merlin, and more.

Star Citizen free fly gives you the chance to try without commitment

Although Star Citizen is still in alpha, the game has jumped leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. It’s far from feature complete, but it has more to do than most finished games even in this relatively early stage. Stability can be an issue at times, but as of the latest patch, 3.10, crashes and bugs aren’t nearly as prevalent as they once were.

With more and more ships and features continually being added to Star Citizen, it’s a great time to get in at the ground level. Long-time pledgees can attest that the game was once little more than a tech demo, but with the release of the 3.0 series of patches its begun to transform into an outline of what the final game will be. If you’ve been on the fence on whether to pledge or not, this free fly event is a great way to dip your toes with no commitment.
