Mortal Kombat 11 Mileena, Rain, and Rambo files possibly found in new datamine

Mortal Kombat 11 Mileena stans might have finally gotten their way after years of endless tweets at the NetherRealm staff. A new datamine shows convincing evidence that the slain Edenian and Tarkatan clone is coming to the game after dying in Mortal Kombat X. But she was not alone as other files point to the purple, Prince-inspired character Rain making a comeback as well as ’80s action hero Rambo making his debut in the series.

As usual, these files were found by MK11 dataminer thethiny. He found multiple references to Mileena, including “CHAR_MIL” in the datamine as well as a reference to her gear slots. Rain also shows up few times under “CHAR_RAN” and is even in some of Sindel’s voice lines. Rambo is likely in there, too, as “RAM.” As you can see, characters in the files are abbreviated to three capitalized letters.

While nothing has been confirmed, there is other evidence that points to these three fighters. Rambo would fit the theme of the game’s ’80s action hero DLC established by both Terminator and RoboCop. Mileena’s eyeballs, as seen in Kitana’s Friendship, were recently changed to possibly match her new character model. Ed Boon has also recently been teasing upcoming characters, some of which point to Rain (“Purple Rain” is on Prince’s sixth album). This is all also consistent with a leak from Aftermath’s launch.

All of this seems to be part of a bigger package as thethiny also found references to “GOTY2” in the files. This likely means that another bundle is coming and is being referred to as a Game of the Year compilation that could coincide with the arrival of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. While NetherRealm usually releases new editions of its games sometime in the beginning of the year, the original Injustice also pushed its GOTY release to November in order to hit the PS4’s launch. That bundle was only announced about a month before the new consoles hit, showing that the team has a knack for announcing its next-gen ports right before they come out.

Other recently found files show that some of the 1995 film actors are reprising their roles and providing new voices for Sonya, Johnny Cage, and Raiden. Given all of this, it looks like NetherRealm is gearing up for yet another big Aftermath-style content drop with new voices, characters, and more.
