Nintendo Stops Production Of New Wii Consoles

Nintendo's Japanese website notes that production has stopped on the company's Wii console, the massively successful home video game box that let you introduce gaming to friends and family that would have never tried it without Wii's signature motion controls.

The four kanji characters in the top right of the Wii page on Nintendo's website (above) note that production has halted on Wii hardware. As of this summer, Nintendo's Wii console had shipped over 100 million units world wide. None of those units are capable of playing a DVD movie, but I'm sure the Wii will live on in rooms of younger siblings, in old folks retirement homes, in a trash can somewhere.

I'm not very fond of the Wii. I never have been. I waited outside my GameStop all night to preorder but the HD-generation of consoles quickly tore my attention away and my diehard Nintendo fanboyism died (a little).

Got a Wii memory? When was your first hands-on experience with the console? What did you think of the motion controls and do you still play on Wii with friends and family?
