Ubisoft Connect has been revealed as the replacement for the Ubisoft Club in order to unify the company’s games across all platforms. As a consequence, older Ubisoft Club Challenges are being removed — but players are getting some excellent rewards in return.
Previously, the Ubisoft Club would reward players for completing Challenges in various games; some of these games offered players the questionable option of purchasing in-game currency outright. The new Ubisoft Connect program will continue the challenge system and the usage of Units, but older games will not be transitioning to the new Challenges system.
Ubisoft Connect gives players 1,000+ free rewards
Ubisoft Connect Challenges will largely work the same as they did in the Ubisoft Club. Players will earn Ubisoft Connect XP which will increase their Ubisoft Account Level. Each level will award Units, and these Units can be used to unlock unique rewards in Ubisoft Games.
Older Ubisoft games, however, will not be transitioning to this system. The bad news is that all older Ubisoft Club Challenges are being removed from older games, removing any opportunity for players to earn Units through classic titles they might have not played just yet. The good news, however, is that Ubisoft is taking the over 1,000 rewards from these older games and giving them away to players for free.
“On our back catalogue games, you will be able to access Ubisoft Connect services (stats, leaderboard, Smart Intel when applicable), but the challenge system is inactive,” read an F.A.Q. about Ubisoft’s new loyalty program. “As a consequence, we have decided to offer you all the rewards available on these games: you now have more than 1.000 Rewards for free to enjoy!”
Aside from abandoning older games, Ubisoft Connect also represents a subtle change in the way that Units are awarded. Previously, players could earn Units by completing certain Challenges; now, Units will only be awarded when a player gains an account level.
Ubisoft Connect will apply to all upcoming and future Ubisoft games such as Watch Dogs: Legion, a game that was recently revealed to have delayed its multiplayer component by several weeks. With four open-world games debuting in the next few months, players will likely have no shortage of ways to level up their account and earn more in-game rewards when the new loyalty program debuts on October 29, 2020.
