Although much of Sony's current focus is on the impending PS4 launch on November 15th, Sony appears to be gearing up for the future of consumer electronics, as CEO and President of Sony Corp. Kaz Hirai will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
It's difficult to say if Hirai will directly cover the PlayStation brand since Sony offers a wide variety of consumer electronics such as Bravia TVs, Cybershot cameras, and more. But considering how close the event is to the PS4 launch, and with talk of a PlayStation-branded Oculus Rift competitor, CES would make the perfect venue to discuss the future of PlayStation, in addition to Sony as a whole.
CES 2012 was where Sony first showed off their HMZ-T1 3D Personal Video Viewer headset, which likely provided much of the inspiration for the PlayStation-branded Oculus Rift competitor. You can read about my experience with the VR-like headset while playing PSN-exclusive Datura, here.
Consumer Electronics Association President and CEO Gary Shapiro says that Kaz Hirai is "excited" to hear Hirai's "insight surrounding the next generation of consumer technology", calling Sony" one of the leading brands in the industry, bringing content and technology together to transform the way we live, work and play".
CES 2014 takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 7th-10th. Kaz Hirai's address will begin at 8:30AM Pacific on Tuesday, January 7th.
