Xbox Game Pass for PC EA Play

Xbox Game Pass for PC EA Play access delayed until 2021

One of the many perks of subscribing to Xbox Game Pass is that users also get access to EA Play, at least on Xbox consoles. EA Play was to become available for Xbox Game Pass for PC this month, but this benefit has now been delayed until sometime in 2021.

When will EA Play be available for Xbox Game Pass for PC?

Xbox Game Pass for PC

According to the blog post announcing the delay of EA Play on Xbox Game Pass for PC, the perk was originally scheduled to be released today, December 15. For unknown reasons, the Xbox Game Pass Team decided to delay EA Play on PC for Xbox Game Pass for PC owners until 2021.

Xbox console owners who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass gained access to EA Play on November 10, which left PC users wondering when the perk would launch on that platform. We can infer that there’s been some sort of technical issue preventing the launch of the feature on PC from the text of the blog:

“We established this partnership with Electronic Arts because they are as passionate as we are about helping people and communities discover great games, and we knew we could provide a great experience for members by working together. In order to deliver on that, we need more time to provide the Xbox Game Pass experience.”

Those who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can still access EA Play on Xbox consoles. However, those playing exclusively on PC will have to wait until “early next year” for news on the status of EA Play integration on that platform.

We can only guess at what the issue is here, but it likely has something to do with EA’s plans to retire the much-derided Origin platform in favor of a new desktop app. While the EA desktop app has been in beta since September, issues with its development may have set back EA’s integration with Xbox on PC.
