New Fortnite graphics patch

Fortnite on PC will become harder to run at max settings

When the game’s latest update drops next week, there will be a new Fortnite graphics patch for PC players included in the bargain, one that will finally bring the PC version up to par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. The Fortnite next-gen upgrade was added to the console versions in November, and will finally be rolled out on PC. Unfortunately, this has the knock-on effect of making Fortnite max settings harder to run, and the game’s system requirements have been upped as well.

Running Fortnite on PC at max settings in 2021

New Fortnite graphics patch

The visual update for the PC version of Fortnite will add a load of cool graphics effects and improvements to bring the game more in line with the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, which as mentioned went live back in November. These next-gen visual improvements include improved Storm and cloud effects, enhanced smoke and liquid effects meaning better-looking explosions, fire, and Slurp effects, improved post-processing features for bloom and lens flares, and generally better shadow quality.

These effects will be available in High and Epic graphics settings on PC, although obviously Epic settings will include all the new improvements. The Fortnite graphics update will be included with Chapter 2 Season 7 or patch 17.00, which will go live next week. However, this does mean that players will need a better system in order to play on these settings. High settings will basically be the equivalent of what Epic was pre-patch, and the new Epic settings require a beefier PC.

Here are the recommended specs for max settings:

  • Nvidia GTX 1080, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or equivalent GPU
  • 4 GB VRAM or higher
  • Intel Core i7-8700, AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, or equivalent
  • 16 GB RAM or higher
  • NVMe Solid State Drive
  • Windows 10 64-bit

PC players should also note that the official OS has been changed to Windows 10, although Epic says that Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8 64-bit users shouldn’t experience any problems.

Elsewhere in the world of Fortnite, Season 7 may be bringing with it a crossover with the Marvel Loki Disney Plus series, which is also coming next week. However, trying to call the alien hotline is a bewildering experience that we don’t recommend.
