A ‘Quake Revitalized‘ leak has revealed that a possible remaster, remake, or even reboot of the original Quake is on the way from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames. This is thanks to a QuakeCon leak that revealed the team will be announcing a ‘revitalized edition’ at next week’s QuakeCon at Home event that could well be a full Quake remake for 2021. But what could this new Quake game actually be?
Is Quake Revitalized Edition a Quake remake, reboot, or remaster?
The ‘Quake Revitalized Edition’ will be revealed at QuakeCon At Home next Thursday, August 19, and will likely be either a modern remaster of the original Quake or possibly a full remake, with extra content. It is unlikely to be a Quake reboot.
The QuakeCon 2021 schedule for next week was released by Bethesda yesterday, with the opening talk being a celebration of Quake’s 25th anniversary with creators id Software and, seemingly inexplicably, current Wolfenstein developer MachineGames — despite Wolfenstein 3 seemingly not being revealed at the show. However, as spotted by XboxEra, a now-deleted description of Friday’s ‘Let’s Talk Quake’ event leaks that a ‘revitalized edition’ of Quake 1 is being revealed and that MachineGames is contributing “additional content” to the new version.

MachineGames is certainly the right developer for the 25th-anniversary project, as this “additional content” could very well take the form of what the developer did for Quake’s 20th anniversary: a full, new, free expansion for the original game called ‘Dimension of the Past’. Including this expansion with a Quake remake would be a smart choice.

This is certainly not the only Quake remake around, as fans have been working on a ‘Quake 1.5‘ remaster mod for a while now. MachineGames is also working on an Indiana Jones game and, presumably, the still-unannounced Wolfenstein 3. id Software is still making updates for Doom Eternal, of which the latest will be at QuakeCon, but the much-advertised Dark Souls-like Invasion mode has been canceled. Finally, for anyone looking for a bit of Quake multiplayer, Quake Champions is still going and it’s now free-to-play.
