‘Fortnite Frog’ becomes the new mascot of Fortnite downtime

#FortniteFrog is the number one Twitter trend in the US right now, as a result of the battle royale’s surly-looking amphibian being used as the unofficial mascot for Fortnite downtime.

Why is Fortnite Frog trending on Twitter?

The Fortnite Frog.

Epic Games’ blockbuster shooter received a new update today, and while it doesn’t have much of anything to do with frogs, players are still using the animal to celebrate the arrival of its latest patch. The frog, which was first introduced to the game in Fortnite Season 2: Chapter 6, is being used by fans as their Twitter profile pictures, encouraged by Fortnite leaker HYPEX and ShiinaBR.

It didn’t take long for #FortniteFrog to become the number one trend in the US as a result, with players changing their profile pictures in solidarity:

The leakers have said they’ll continue to boost #FortniteFrog for future updates, so it seems that this unlikely Fortnite character will become a longstanding mascot during the game’s server downtime. It’s unclear exactly why the frog has been chosen, but this is Twitter, so things don’t necessarily have to make sense for people to embrace them with open arms.

The latest update was distinctly free of frogs, with it instead preparing a brand new Imposter game mode, removing the Coral Castle from the map, adding a new Wonder Woman skin to the game, while introducing a variety of other assorted fixes and changes. As is typically the case with Epic Games, the full patch notes have yet to be revealed, with Epic now steadily releasing information about its new updates after the publisher has pushed them live across various platforms.

In other news, it was revealed this week that Dead By Daylight’s Stranger Things DLC would be removed from the game. Pokemon Unite also revealed Blissey as a brand new support Pokemon.
