The opening ceremony of Gamescom 2021 kicked off with a fresh reveal of the Saints Row reboot. The series doesn’t appear to have lost touch with its roots, but there are a few new changes to the formula. Notably, the reboot contains a collection of pre-set characters, making some fans worry that developer Volition ditched the series’ trademark character customization. Worry not: Not only is character creation present, it’s apparently more robust than ever.
Yes, the Saints Row reboot has character customization
It’s fair to say that the Saints Row formula is known for being outrageous, and character customization is a big part of that. Players are allowed to create the hero or villain of their dreams, right down to the tiniest and dirtiest details. It became something of a series staple, and from what we’ve heard so far, nothing has changed.
Despite having set characters closely involved with the action, the story of the Saints Row reboot follows The Boss. The Boss, of course, is a character of the player’s own design. And not only can The Boss be fully customized, the team at Volition promise that the character creation system is more robust than ever. Here’s what the game’s official press release has to say:
“Create the Boss of your dreams, with the most extensive character customization suite ever seen in the series, then complete the look with incredible options for weapons and vehicles.”
Of course, this game was only just revealed, so we’re still waiting to learn more details. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry that one of the Saints Row series’ most exciting traditions hasn’t being discarded. Plus, we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to learn more about the character creation system, as the Saints Row reboot is slated to launch on February 25, 2022, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
