After downloading the new iOS 15.1 update, iPhone users are opening the Control Centre to discover a bizarre new button. Dubbed the iPhone “Ear Button,” tapping it doesn’t immediately make its purpose clear. While some are wondering what it is and does, others are simply looking to remove it from the menu. Fortunately, it’s possible to get rid of the Live Listen feature on iPhone for anybody that doesn’t want a disembodied ear hiding in their iOS Control Centre.

Apple iPhone’s “Ear Button” activates the Live Listen feature; AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and Powerbeats Pro owners are able to use their mobile as a microphone and remotely listen to its audio capture.
Live Listen isn’t a new iPhone feature, though the iOS 15.1 update brings it to the forefront for many. Since it isn’t a function that most users will need, thankfully, there’s a quick and easy way to remove the iPhone “Ear Button” from the Control Centre menu.
How to remove iPhone ‘Ear Button’ from Control Centre
- Unlock the iPhone.
- Open the Settings application.
- Scroll down and tap the Control Centre option.
- Locate the Hearing setting under the Included Controls heading.
- Tap the red minus symbol, then hit the Remove button.
The iPhone “Ear Button” doesn’t appear for everyone after downloading and installing the iOS 15.1 update. When it does appear, however, it commonly leaves users scratching their heads. As a couple of example use cases, Apple suggests that Live Listen lets users clearly hear others speaking in noisy areas and/or across distances.
