God of War TV Series Reportedly in Development

A God of War TV series is rumored to be in development by Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, . Reportedly, the gruesome, mythological journey of Kratos through the pantheon of classical gods will be made into a live-action show adaptation. It’s still uncertain which games in God of War’s extensive catalog will be adapted, with the series possibly being drawn from the prior series mainly in the PS2 and PS3 era, or the many-realmed modern series with the revamp in 2018 and the upcoming God of War: Ragnarok.

According to Deadline, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, creator and executive producers of the critically-acclaimed The Expanse, will join Rafe Judkins, the executive producer and showrunner of The Wheel of Time, in the creation of this adaptation. Of course, as God of War is one of the flagship, exclusive franchises for the PlayStation brand, both Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will assist in the production.

The God of War TV series is in negotiations to air specifically on Prime Video, where Amazon Studios would co-produce the show with Sony. Representatives for both have yet to provide a comment or confirmation on the series.

PlayStation Productions has made a significant push for TV adaptations of its franchises, bringing their gaming IP to a wider viewing audience. A TV series for Twisted Metal has already been ordered by Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, and will star Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as the amnesiac John Doe. The highly-anticipated The Last of Us TV adaptation, with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the principal leads, is also still in production by HBO.

In other news, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer lead has left 343 Industries, and another PlayStation exclusive Gran Turismo 7 received a very high rating in our review. The rebooted God of War received GameRevolution’s Game of the Year in 2018.
