Bandai Namco is recruiting for several positions within the company. Usually, this wouldn’t be terribly newsworthy if it wasn’t for the fact that they’re working on an HD remaster of a 3D action game on behalf of Nintendo. The news has sparked rumors of a Star Fox or Kid Icarus: Uprising HD remaster for Nintendo Switch.
What do we know about Bandai Namco’s HD remaster?
The upcoming game will be a 3D action game project for Nintendo. According to the job listing for a visual artist, as spotted by ResetEra, part of the development process will include creating HD remasters of 3D backgrounds. This means importing existing 3D backgrounds into a new engine. This has left players guessing which Nintendo titles could become a remaster for the Switch with the most popular theories being either Kid Icarus: Uprising or one of the Star Fox titles.
If the game is indeed a Star Fox remake, there are plenty of titles to choose from. While possibly not the first title players would think about, Star Fox: Assault was actually developed by Namco for Gamecube. Its gameplay included aerial combat, ground vehicle combat, and third-person run ‘n’ gun shooting. Other possibilities include its predecessor Star Fox Adventures, as well as Star Fox Command or perhaps even Star Fox Zero.
Kid Icarus: Uprising was originally created by now-defunct studio Project Sora. The 3DS game combined third-person shooter gameplay with on-rails shooter segments and would definitely fit into the loose definition of an “action” game that the industry uses. However, creator Masahiro Sakurai has previously stated a Nintendo Switch adaptation of the game would be impossible as they no longer have the human resources to do this. It doesn’t sound likely development would have been passed to another studio, but stranger things have happened. Either way, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear more.
In other news, rumors say Dead Island 2 could be re-revealed this summer with a release date as early as the end of this year. Elsewhere, the latest Halo: The Master Chief Collection update added Floodfight, cross-platform campaign co-op, and campaign customization for some of its titles.
