PS1 and PSP Games To Receive New Gameplay Features When Revamped PS Plus Launches

Sony has today unveiled some of the games that users will get access to as part of the new-look PS Plus subscription service along with information about what improvements classic games will be getting. Selected PlayStation 1 and PSP titles will get brand new features as part of a new interface, although these will only be available for higher-tier PS Plus Premium and Deluxe members.

PS Plus Classic Games Get New Interface and Upgraded Features

Ape Escape 2

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, users will get enhanced versions of selected classic games. This will include improved frame rates and higher resolutions, bringing extra quality to these older games. Sony also revealed that some of the included games will also come with a brand new user interface. The interface will include additional menus that give players the opportunity to use save states and rewind gameplay.

Save states are a common feature of emulators that run older games on modern systems. They essentially allow players to save the game at any point rather than waiting for a proper save point. Meanwhile, Sony hasn’t shared exactly how the rewind feature will work but it will likely give players the chance to skip back a few seconds to a previous point without reloading the game.

The blog post makes it clear that anyone who has previously purchased a digital version of the games included in PS Plus will be able to get access to a download for the PS4 and PS5 editions without having to make an extra purchase.

Some of the first-party games revealed to be coming to PS Plus Premium and Deluxe with the extra features include Ape Escape 2, Dark Cloud, Jak 2 and 3, Rogue Galaxy, Siren, and Wild Arms 3. Other classic games will include the original Ape Escape, Hot Shots Gold, Tekken 2, Worms Armageddon, and Mr. Driller.

In other news, Doctor Strange 2 has grossed more than $550 million at the box office, while newly found cut content from Elden Ring shows what the covenants originally looked like.
