[Update] Square Enix has released an official statement, clarifying the current status of the Hitman franchise. While the Montreal studio may not be working on a new Hitman title, IO Interactive is still very much attached to the series.
Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year.

[Original] The next-gen Hitman game from Square Enix Montreal has reportedly been canceled, according to the résumé of a game designer on the project.
Senior designer Richard Knight's LinkedIn page indicates that the next game starring everyone's favorite bald assassin has been scrapped. That said, this doesn't necessarily mean Square is abandoning the franchise entirely, as IO Interactive may still be working on a new entry in the series in Square Enix Montreal's stead.
