New Netflix Movie Do Revenge Takes on Bullying With Dark Comedy

Netflix has announced a new movie called Do Revenge, a dark comedy that features two women who team up to take down each others’ bullies. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the show stars Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke in the leading roles and will air on the streaming service in September.

What we know about Do Revenge

Do Revenge

Do Revenge features two high school girls who team up to take down the people that are bullying them. Mendes plays the role of queen bee Drea, who wants revenge on her ex-boyfriend Max (played by Austin Abrams) after he leaked their sex tape. Meanwhile, Hawke plays a transfer student called Eleanor, who was outed by a malicious rumor started by an unnamed girl who claimed Eleanor tried to hold her down and kiss her. They both decide to take revenge on the other’s bully.

The cast will also feature Alisha Boe as Drea’s BFF Tara, Jonathan Daviss as Max’s friend Elliot, Rish Shah as Russ, Talia Ryder as Gabbi, Ava Capri as Carissa, Maia Reficco as Montana, Paris Berelc as Meghan, and Sophie Turner in the role of an unnamed character. There’s even a bearded dragon called Faye that plays Eleanor’s pet, named after Academy Award winner Olivia Colman. The problem is that the casting caused some issues when Hawke had scheduling conflicts with Stranger Things. Robinson told Elle:

“It had to be Maya. And so, the movie was supposed to take place in Los Angeles; we moved it and shot it in Atlanta so we could shoot it at the same time as Stranger Things. And I rewrote it and reset it in Miami. … They were so perfect that we legit moved the production, because if we waited for Maya after Stranger Things, we would’ve lost Cami. And if we had Cami in L.A., we wouldn’t have Maya. I was like, ‘Nope, it has to be both of them.’ So we moved the whole movie six weeks before production.”

Do Revenge is due to bring its dark comedy take on bullying to Netflix on September 16.
