Earlier today, rumors started spreading that Sony had paid publisher Devolver Digital a sum of money to block Cult of the Lamb from releasing on Xbox Game Pass on day one, but Devolver has now released a statement denying the allegations. Despite not appearing on Game Pass, the game managed to accumulate over 1 million followers in the first week following its release.
Devolver Digital denies the rumors
The rumors started after Gary Whitta told the Kinda Funny Games Daily show that “somebody told me that part of the reason why [Cult of the Lamb is] not on Game Pass is Sony paid [the developer] not to put it on Game Pass.” Publisher Devolver Digital has categorically denied this is the case, telling TheGamer “this is absolutely untrue.” Allegations aside, none of Devolver Digital’s games have ever come to Xbox Game Pass on day one, although there’s a possibility of Cult of the Lamb being added in the future, especially as Sony hasn’t blocked it.
Developer Massive Monster and Devolver Digital had earlier announced the game had managed to reach 1 million followers in just a single week. However, they’re aware that players are having some problems with the game after being asked to submit bug reports. The team has promised they are now “hard at work prepping a multitude of fixes, improvements and general housekeeping that they hope will continue to spread positivity throughout the land.” They also promised to share “a content roadmap for updates in honor of The One Who Waits” to show players what the team is hoping to add to the game in the future.
In other news, the Dungeons & Dragons 6th Edition playtest has been called “One D&D” after they revise the three core rulebooks. Elsewhere, the Xbox Free Play Days for the weekend beginning August 19 have been announced and they include Outriders and The Elder Scrolls Online.
