[Update] While the backers for Broken Age's Kickstarter will receive access codes to Part 1 today, the public launch will be in two weeks on January 28 for PC, Mac, and Linux. Pre-ordering it on Steam will net you a 10% discount.
Instead of launching as part of Steam's Early Access program as announced earlier, it will launch on Steam with season pass support as that pretty much has the same result. Those who own Act 1 will receive Act 2 at no cost when it releases later this year.
[Original] After receiving over $3.3 million from over 87,000 backers on Kickstarter back in Febuary-March 2012, Double Fine's Broken Age is releasing its first part of two next week on Tuesday, January 14. Having played a brief demo of the adventure, point-'n'-click adventure at a public Developer's Day event, I'm relieved that the game will finally be seeing the light of day. Tim Schafer is as well, as in a tweet today:
Haven't shipped a game of my own in 4.5 years, an adventure game in 16, a point-n-click in almost 20. Next Tuesday is going to be exciting!
Perhaps just in time, I watched a full playthrough of Grim Fandango last month for nostalgia's sake… oh my, I don't feel young anymore.
Backers will receive Steam Early Access codes of Broken Age, with part two due sometime in the next few months. Prominent actors such as Elijah Wood, Masasa Moyo, Wil Wheaton, Jack Black, and Jennifer Hale will be lending their voices to the game.
