With just over a month to go until Halloween comes around once again, a new trailer for the upcoming Netflix horror fantasy flick Wendell and Wild has been revealed. From the minds of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline director Henry Selick, and Get Out creator Jordan Peele, comes this original spooky story for a whole new generation, starring some pretty fantastic names. Get your first look at Wendell and Wild, which originally started as an unpublished book by Selick and Clay McLeod Chapman, below.
Wendell and Wild trailer teases terrifying tale
After 13 years, filmmaker Henry Selick returns with the new stop-motion animated movie, Wendell and Wild. Leading the cast is Lyric Ross, lending her voice to 13-year-old orphan Kat Elliot. Battling her personal demons – the titular Wendell and Wild (Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key) — she will meet a strange cast of curious characters, including the demon-destroying Sister Helley (Angela Bassett), and her fellow nuns and altar boys.
When Wendell and Wild realize that Kat has the ability to summon demons to the world of the living, they devise a plot to try and trick her into unleashing them from their prison. Whether or not they are successful remains to be seen, but there are sure to be plenty of laughs as well as scares along the way.
Speaking about the film in an interview with Polygon, Selick said that whilst he “does like scary stuff,” he “doesn’t want to do strong horror.” Despite that, he confirmed: “[this movie] can be pretty damn scary.” Judging by his success with The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, where he was an expert in balancing the horror with more light-hearted aspects, it’s clear that Wendell and Wild is in safe hands.
Wendell and Wild will premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 28, 2022.
