PS1 and 2 Games Reportedly Coming to PS4 Through Software Emulation

According to a new report, Sony is looking to bring original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games to PlayStation 4 via software emulation, instead of going the cloud-streaming route like it is with PS3 titles over PlayStation Now.

An unnamed source has told Eurogamer that PS1 and PS2 games will run on Sony's new console through local emulation, much like it has in the past. What's different this time, however, is that the company is reportedly looking into providing high-def enhancements to improve the visuals of its back catalog.

That said, this doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility of Sony still bringing PlayStation 1, 2 and PSP games to PlayStation Now, though they'd likely not offer the same visual and performance benefits as downloading and playing them locally.

Sony has yet to comment on the matter, so keep this one in the rumor bin for the time being. With PlayStation Now set to go live this summer and Sony prepping a beta for release very soon, we'll likely get clarification in the near future.
