Amazon is planning to release an Android-powered console sometime in 2014, according to a report from VG247.
According to the outlet, "mutiple sources" have confirmed that the console is being designed to "compete directly with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, offering the streaming and download of games, music, movies and TV content." Oh yeah, and it won't cost a penny over $300.
Amazon recently purchased game developer Double Helix, who just recently developed the Xbox One exlcusive Killer Instinct. There's no doubt that the company is eager to step into the gaming ring, but we still have yet to receive any sort of official announcement from Amazon that a console from them is coming.
That said, with the soaring popularity of its Amazon Prime service, Kindle Fire tablet line, and virtually everything else it creates, Amazon is going to be a formiddable foe, whatever the company decides to do.
