[Update] Psyche! It looks like the character in the E3 teaser for The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is in fact Link. Aonuma cleared up the confusion in an interview with MMGN, telling the outlet that he was just kidding when he suggested that the hero in the teaser wasn't Link.
"Actually that comment I made jokingly," he explained. "It's not that I said that it wasn't Link. It's that I never said that it was Link. It's not really the same thing, but I can understand how it could be taken that way.
"It seems like it has kind of taken off where people are saying 'oh it's a female character' and it just kind of grew. But my intent in saying that was humour. You know, you have to show Link when you create a trailer for a Zelda announcement."
[Original] There's reason to believe the hero in Nintendo's E3 teaser for the next entry in The Legend of Zelda isn't actually Link—and no, it's not solely because the character kind of looks like a girl.
When asked about the bow-wielding character in the stunning trailer that aired during the Big N's Digital Event yesterday, series producer Eiji Aonuma said to Gamesbeat that "no one explicitly said that that was Link." While this doesn't necessarily mean that the character isn't Link, it does open the possibility for an adventure in Hyrule staring someone other than the familiar tunic-wearing hero.
Who do you think the character in the teaser might be? Is Aonuma just stirring the pot for no reason and it really is just Link? Could we finally get a full fledged adventure starring the princess the franchise is named after? Weigh in with your thoughts in the comments below.
