Halo 5’s New Spartan Is Agent Locke

As teased by the first piece of Halo 5: Guardians art, a new Spartan is joining the fray in 343 Industries' highly-anticipated shooter. His name is Agent Locke, and he'll be the main focus of Ridley Scott's upcoming "digital feature," dubbed Halo Nightfall.

The idea behind this, 343i's Bonnie Ross told Eurogamer, is to provide enough backstory on Locke ahead of time "so when you end up with Halo 5: Guardians you have an idea of the background of this new character."

That said, Master Chief will still be the star of Halo 5, despite the fact that he's sharing the spotlight with this new Spartan. "He is human, he's always been human, but at the end of Halo 4 he really is reflecting on who he is and why he exists," Ross said of Spartan 117. "That was very deliberate because the story we want to tell on Xbox One really is an important part and the main part of his hero's journey. It's more about what he's searching for versus what the UNSC is asking him to do.

"[Halo 5 is] a continuation of Master Chief's story."

Halo 5: Guardians launches on Xbox One in 2015. It's gonna be a long and excruciating wait.
