Bobby Kotick Was Almost Fired From Activision Last Year

Activision Blizzard parent company Vivendi strongly considered firing CEO Bobby Kotick in 2013, Bloomberg has revealed.

This arose during Kotick's pursuit to purchase Vivendi's controlling shares in Activision Blizzard, during which the Activision CEO threatened to quit if he wasn't allowed to purchase $2.34 billion of the company's shares. Naturally, this threat didn't sit well with the higher-ups, leading to discussions regarding his forced departure.

“I really wonder who’s going to fire him,” Vivendi's CEO at the time, Jean-Francois Dubos, said in an email sent out last May, to which Vivendi CFO and Activision Chairman Philippe Capron replied, "Myself, happily. Tomorrow if you want."

But alas, it never happened.
