Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida was just as surprised as the rest of the gaming populace when Microsoft announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be coming exclusively to Xbox platforms in 2015.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Yoshida told the outlet, "I was surprised," adding, "It's very interesting the way Phil Spencer said, what we are saying is, in holiday 2015 Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox. So it's open to interpretation. But still, we didn't anticipate something like this would happen."
When asked about the possibility of a PlayStation 4 version, the Sony exec replied, "That question has to be asked to Square Enix and Microsoft. I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer."
So PlayStation gamers still don't have a definitive answer one way or the other, but it stands to reason that a PS4 port will see the light of day eventually. I just can't imagine Square limiting its potential consumer base for all that long.
