James Gunn and Peter Safran have unveiled their new DCU slate. For 24 hours, James Gunn’s DC announcement has been trending in various forms on social media. Now, fans of the DC Universe can finally see what he and DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO Safran have got planned.
The slate included a massive 10 new projects in total, broken down into five new television shows, and five movies. While one familiar face in particular will be returning, the majority of the TV series and films announced will be bringing in a host of fresh faces to tackle the roles. Gunn and Safran say that this new venture will be a “unified” approach in DC storytelling.
Here’s James Gunn’s new DCU slate
- Creature Commandos – TV Series
- Waller – TV Series
- Superman Legacy – Movie
- Lanterns – TV Series
- The Authority – Movie
- Paradise Lost – TV Series
- The Brave and the Bold – Movie
- Booster Gold – TV Series
- Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – Movie
- Swamp Thing – Movie
James Gunn confirmed in his DC announcement (via The Wrap) that these 10 initial projects make up just the first part of “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.” Safran said at the presentation that “almost everything coming up […] will take place in the same universe and will mark a cohesive piece of storytelling.” He added that this will include “everything DC-related – film, television, live-action, animation, gaming.”
Viola Davis appears to be one of the very few who has kept her role. She will continue to play Amanda Waller in the titular TV series, and will be joined by “Team Peacemaker” according to Gunn. The movie that “is really the start of the DCU” in Safran’s words, however, is Superman Legacy. Gunn is writing the film, and Safran says he has high hopes that he “can be persuaded, perhaps, to direct it as well.”
There will also be the movie The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce the DCU’s Batman, as well as one particular young member of his Bat-family, Damian Wayne. Gunn describes the project as a “very strange father/son story.” Robert Pattinson’s Batman will continue to exist in the “Elseworlds” category, outside of this continuity.
