Knock at the Cabin from M. Night Shyamalan is just a couple of days away from theatrical release. Set to hit the big screen on February 3, 2023, the thriller is based on the book The Cabin at the End of the World, by author Paul G. Tremblay. Now, the first reviews for the movie have come in, along with the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score, and it appears as though this Shyamalan release is just as polarizing as many that have come before it.

Knock at the Cabin has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 74% at the time of writing, after 31 reviews (23 fresh, and 8 rotten). This is undoubtedly a respectable score, and should have those interested in watching the movie excited for what it has to offer. It beats director M. Night Shyamalan’s 2021 release Old, sitting at 53%, and 2019 release Glass, sitting at 67%.

Uproxx said that the film is “one of M. Night Shyamalan’s best,” describing it as “eerie” and “disturbing,” with the reviewing journalist admitting they “also found myself tearing up at times.” USA Today lauded Dave Bautista with praise especially, saying that he will one day “be the first WWE champ with an Oscar nomination,” who has “always been impressive but takes it to the next level” in this movie.

However, there are some who weren’t huge fans of the film. Variety described the movie as “long, slow and disappointing,” adding that it was “all quite unpleasant” despite being “relatively unpredictable.” The Guardian, meanwhile, said that the “apocalyptic mystery horror is short on both mystery and horror,” while claiming that “the ambiguous finale is deeply ridiculous.” The publication gave it a score of 2/5.

Knock at the Cabin tells the story of a couple who are vacationing with their daughter, when strangers turn up at their lodgings and reveal that they must sacrifice one member of their family to prevent the apocalypse. Bautista stars alongside Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rupert Grint, and Kristen Cui.
