Yasunori Ogura, a producer from FromSoftware, has revealed that Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon will feature an online arena as a multiplayer mode. The announcement was made during a special Bandai Namco broadcast at Taipei Game Show 2023 where Ogura shared and confirmed details about the upcoming Armored Core game in a lengthy 18-minute curated interview.
Armored Core 6 story mode will be single player-only
In the presentation, Ogura explains how FromSoftware is approaching single-player and online content in the game thus far:
As [our] focus has been [sic] on producing the most dynamic action possible, we have restricted story mode gameplay to single-player only, but as an online element, we are also planning the implementation of battles in an online arena.
This suggests that Armored Core 6 won’t have the kind of multiplayer system found in Dark Souls and Elden Ring. It’s unclear at this time if this online arena is PvP, a co-operative horde mode, or something else entirely. Ogura promises that From Software will provide more details on how the mode will work in the future, but it seems that this will kept separate from the story mode.
As for other online components, Ogura reveals that user-created emblems that function like decals for mechs will return in Armored Core 6, allowing players to share their work with other players.
The broadcast also discloses that the story of Armored Core 6 will have no connection to its predecessor, Armored Core 5, so that players can jump into the game without feeling lost in this sequel.
