Switch 2 Release Date Window: Nintendo’s Next Console ‘Progressing Well’ — Report

Rumors of the Switch 2 release date window have been buzzing for some time, but now we have some more information on Nintendo’s next console.

When will a new Nintendo Switch come out?

Japanese finance paper Nikkei recently profiled Nintendo’s predictions that it will sell fewer Switch consoles than the previous fiscal year. With that in mind, it means the Switch 2 release date window could be sooner rather than later.

In its report, sources close to Nikkei also noted development on a new console is “progressing well.” However, those sources also indicated a product launch won’t happen until next year “at the earliest.”

“Development seems to be progressing well,” a source told Nikkei Asia about the Switch 2 release date window. “But a product launch won’t happen before next spring.”

This report comes just after comments made by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, which confirmed no new Switch console or next-generation hardware would release in 2023. Following Nintendo’s publication of its business forecast, Furukawa said in a call (via Bloomberg) that “no new or upgraded hardware” was factored into Nintendo’s annual forecast.

Despite the predicted slump in sales, the Nintendo Switch has been anything but a failure for the company. As of this writing, the console is the third-highest-selling game console of all time, having sold more than 125.62 million pieces of hardware. This trails only the Nintendo DS (154.02 million) and PlayStation 2 (~155 million) in the history of video game consoles.
