So soon after it was announced that Pete Hines would be leaving Bethesda, another key figure at the studio has also departed. This time, it’s the Lead Quest Designer for Starfield who is exiting the company, having now moved to a different developer.
Worked on more than Starfield
In a recent post on his LinkedIn page, Bethesda veteran Will Shen announced he’s leaving the Starfield team for Something Wicked Games. Here he’ll be working with the studio as its Lead Content Designer.
The message from Shen expresses excitement about his new role, but also gives a heartfelt thank you to Bethesda Game Studios, adding how “lucky” he is to have been a part of some huge releases.
Shen’s resume is pretty impressive. Beginning at Bethesda as a Design Intern in 2007, over the years, he’s contributed writing and quest design to such hits as Fallout 3, Fallout 76 (including the Wastelanders DLC), Fallout 4, Skyrim, and even Fallout Shelter.
According to his LinkedIn page, he’s been with the company for nearly fifteen years. A December 2022 post on Twitter/X by Bethesda introduced the world to Shen while promoting Starfield.
However, he won’t be leaving Bethesda entirely. His move to Something Wicked Games puts him in touch with other veterans of the Elder Scrolls developer while also affording him the chance to work with people associated with Obsidian and BioWare.
As for what Shen will be doing next, Something Wicked Games is currently working on the upcoming open-world RPG Wyrdsong. A post on Twitter/X from the company formerly welcomed the former Starfield quest designer to the team.
