Doing the Numbers: PSP Leads Japanese Charts

What time is it? That time. Yes, every week a lot of numbers go up on the internet and then people pick over them and use them to fuel their inane fanboy arguments. Those are always fun! Let's try that out!

This week the PSP took first place in the Japanese hardware charts with 36,659 units sold. Sony's home console followed closely behind in second place with 20,704 sold. Nintendo's home console took third with an uptick in sales to the tune of 18,232 units sold.

The 3DS fell nearly 50% in sales to land in fourth at 16,415. This is clearly the effect of Nintendo's price-drop announcement. I suppose 20 free games aren't the selling point Nintendo would like them to be. The super-sized DSi XL sold 5,267 units while the DSi sold 4,625 units.

The Xbox 360 saw a minimal uptick in sales to 1,616 units with the PS2 following closely behind with 1,594 units sold. The DS Lite and PSP Go held down the caboose with 138 units and 7 units sold, respectively. 7. Units. of PSP Go. Sold. 7 people bought one. Only 7. In a week. In Japan.

Have at it!
