Surely one of the biggest reveals of yesterday's Nintendo Switch event, Super Mario Odyssey is due on Nintendo's new console by the holiday season of 2017. The maybe disappointing launch lineup of the Nintendo Switch aside, Super Mario Odyssey looks like the real deal, a true throwback to the days of Super Mario 64, which could make it a real console-seller.
While details are sparse, let's go off what we have: the incredible trailer made this hype train leave the station. Here are five things we learned from the Super Mario Odyssey trailer.

5 Things We Learned From The Super Mario Odyssey Trailer
It Takes Place (Partially) In New Donk City
You'll see early and often in the trailer that the city in which Mario is seen romping around is called "New Donk City," and it's apparently more patriotic than the city on which it is based, as you can't walk a block in New Donk City without being reminded of where you are. rn rnBut it's certainly not the only location is Super Mario Odyssey. You'll see an old-west-themed level, an Egypt-inspired level (with an upside-down pyramid, no less), a forest level, a jungle level and a puffy, colorful candy-land-type level. rn rnAll of this will assuredly make for a wondrous, non-linear open world Mario game we haven't seen since Super Mario 64.
But So is Bowser\'s
The living hats was clearly too good to be true, as this revelation is also being used by your arch enemy, Bowser is also seen throwing his gaudy and over-sized hat right back at you. rn rnNot sure how this will translate to the game itself, but it sure has me frightened.
Bowser Plans (Again) to Marry Princess Peach
In a plot that seems all-too familiar, it seems that Mario is attempting to thwart Bowser's plan of forcing Princess Peach to marry him.
rn
rnThis marriage will also evidently be the event of the season, with huge posters such as that one posted around the town. So, while the game may have you doing things in different ways, the end goal is always the same:
rn
rnSave the Princess.
Your Hat is Alive! (And you can jump on it)
Probably one of the coolest new features on display is Mario's new hat, which he can throw out in front of him and use it as a platform off of which to jump. rn rnWith the eyes popping out at the end, your hat also clearly has a mind of its own, making it a brand new character of sorts. Given the numerous shots in the trailer of a place called "Crazy Caps," it will be interesting to see how this store interacts with the players. Will it be a place to save and load? A progression/upgrade system for your hat? The possibilities are limitless.
Mario\'s Height is Now Canon (And Really Short)
It was always assumed that Mario himself was a normal human, just a generally short and portly one. And while that's still true, you see him walking around New Donk City with other people only to see him pale in comparison to them, barely making it up to their waists. rn rnSo I guess he's shorter than we all though. Like really short.
