Talk about a complete 720. In just one week, I went from being ecstatic that there was finally some buzz surrounding next generation consoles, to wanting to punch the Internet. In the face.
Why? Because two "rumors" from VG247 have completely fucking killed it for me.
Next gen console talk brings hits. Especially for the site that leaks the first info or rumors. I'm fine with that when there's actual information there. But unfortunately, there are another dozen sites out there with their hands up screaming "me too". And truthfully, that's what I feel like just happened this morning.
Somehow, both of these articles were posted on the exact same moment (14:18 BST), reeking so much of bullshit, that I checked my shoes.
The first (I guess I don't know which one was first since they were both posted at the same exact time) says that "Sony is confident" that they will pre-empt Microsoft to the market with their next console. How the fuck do they know that? How the fuck would Sony even know that? They don't, it's dog shit. Next, the report claims that top developers already know about the hardware, and they're already working on it. No shit.
Next up is an Xbox 720 rumor stating that the console will go with a Blu-ray drive and an always on net connection. Well, we know for sure that due to size struggles this generation, the next Xbox sure as hell won't stick with DVD-9. And why would MS give Sony a one-up with video functionality when Blu-ray drives are super cheap now. Duh. Derp. Done. That always on net connection. Maybe. But that's really a stretch. They say it's to ward off piracy. Maybe. Good guess.
My turn. I'm going to guess that each system will have "controllers", AND an option for "motion controls". They will all "plug into a standard power outlet" and have a "HDMI port" so they can "connect to TVs". My sources confirm that each console will have "USB ports", but how many is still unknown at this time. Chances are, they will "support more than one player", but my source cannot confirm due to these next gen consoles being locked down under strict NDA (but not strict enough to prevent leaks, apparently). Each system will "have networks" and will offer many "multimedia" options.

This is disgusting behavior. And what are the consequences? The actual console releases are so far from now, and with so many more rumors to come, no one will remember these two insignificant mishaps if they do or don't come true. So for the time being, they will continue to (allegedly) make shit up, throw it at the wall, and hope it sticks.
