Aside from Octopath Traveler, there were few major releases this week. As not everyone in the GameRevolution staff owns a Switch (or is interested in JRPGs), most of us dipped into our backlog or took advantage of various game deals. Paul Tamburro, Executive Editor: I could lie to you and say I’ve been playing anything other than Overwatch. I could, but I won’t.
Jason Faulkner, Senior Editor: I’ve been playing Octopath Traveler for review, and I have to say it’s really grown on me. It’s got a great blend of old school JRPG feel with a lot of modern updates that make it feel really fresh instead of derivative.
Mack Ashworth, Lead Editor: Thanks to PS Plus, Absolver‘s online multiplayer is now bustling with noobs. I’ll be roleplaying as a patient ambassador… Joking! I’ll be kicking arse and taking (still impossible to change) PSN names.
Michael Leri, Staff Writer: Contrary to past weeks, I’ve been playing a ton of games so I’m going to run through this quickly. I recently beat Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, and Mothergunship, which were dated, good, and great, respectively. Thanks to the new patch, I’ve also finally started going through Middle-earth: Shadow of War. It’s a little frustrating in the beginning because everything is so overwhelming, but I’m hoping I’ll get over the hump and it’ll all be as good or better than the first game. I’ve also just started Dead Cells and I am eager to play more. You play as a booger and that is neat.
Astrid Johnson, News Writer: I’m currently staying with my boyfriend and we played Jackbox Party Pack with the household. It’s great, like playing Cards Against Humanity but you can bundle up into the fetal position and don’t have to move to play your cards. Perfect lazy shitlord game.
David Lozada, Features Writer: Despite being a huge Batman fan, I never got around to playing Arkham Knight. I started it up this past weekend and I’m inching along with it. So far, I’m disappointed that the big reveal was already somewhat spoiled in the first hour or so. We’ll see if the entire story lives up to my lofty expectations. Fingers crossed!
Ginny Woo, Features Writer: I’m begrudgingly playing Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker to uncover more instances of Toad’s treachery. Also, Octopath Traveler. It’s nice how both games have stories about criminal behavior and taking the law into your own hands. However, Treasure Tracker’s distinct lack of waifus is…. not ideal.
Bradley Russell, Guides Writer: In my never-ending voyage of sifting through the PS2’s back catalog, I’m cracking on with Crash Twinsanity. I’m mostly playing old games now for either a hit of nostalgia or for something I missed out on at the time. This, weirdly, is a bit of both as I only remember playing the first half an hour. It’s actually… not bad. The meta-humour is pretty funny (and not as forced as you’d expect) but the imprecise platforming is close to controller-ruining. If I don’t have a ‘What Are You Playing’ entry next week, you’ll know why.
Brandon Green, News Writer: I have been playing Resident Evil: Dead Aim which is a light-gun game mixed with some third-person elements. It’s a weird game, it has many flaws yet I feel compelled to play the game. It has this lovable charm to it that I can’t put my finger on. Also, the save room music in Dead Aim is fantastic. Aside from that, I’ve been playing Monster Hunter World, Tekken 7, Warframe, and Fallout Shelter.
Alleef Ashaari, News Writer: I recently finished playing all three seasons of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead. It was an unforgettable journey all the way, and not many games have succeeded in making me so emotionally invested. I’m more than ready for the Final Season releasing next month, which is when we’ll finally be seeing Clementine for the very last time. I’m not crying, you are.
