The Walking Dead, August 2018

Here are the Hottest Upcoming August 2018 Games

The batch of upcoming August 2018 games seems to be making up for the relatively dry preceding months. Though this time of the year isn’t typically filled with noteworthy releases, it seems many developers are bringing their titles to market in anticipation of a jam-packed holiday. Games like We Happy Few, Overcooked 2, Yakuza Kiwami 2, and The Walking Dead: The Final Season are only some of the highly sought-after titles launching this month. Whether you’re a fan of JRPGs, indies, or adventure games, there’s bound to be something for you this August.

August 2018 Games – We Happy Few

We Happy Few

We Happy Few isn’t the game people experienced back when it came out on Early Access in 2016. It’s since improved on its gameplay mechanics to produce something a little more approachable and far less open. For those that are unaware, the game takes place in an alternate timeline after the events of World War II. Germany has established itself as the second German Empire and is in the process of taking over Great Britain.

Players will have to navigate their way around Wellington Wells as one of three characters, all while uncovering the shocking truth surrounding the town’s inhabitants and a hallucinogenic drug known as Joy. We’ll have to wait and see if the title truly lives up to expectations, though its premise is quite compelling already. It’s set to come out for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 10.

August 2018 Games – The Walking Dead: The Final Season – Episode 1

The first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season is launching on August 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This last collection will finally wrap up Clementine’s emotional story, picking up after the events of the third season. The girl and her newfound companion, AJ, discover a school that may serve as a home for them. As things usually go in this world, however, the school isn’t exactly what it seems. If you’ve yet to play any of this franchise’s prior seasons, do yourself a favor and start right now. Telltale Games has been building up to this for years.

August 2018 Games – Overcooked 2

Anyone in the mood for some silly cooperative fun? Overcooked 2 is coming out on August 7 for PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, once again serving up all the culinary chaos fans have come to expect from the franchise. The goal is to finish dishes as fast as possible in order to earn better tips from hungry customers. Be warned, however, that kitchen environments constantly change to make your lives that much harder. Oh, and stuff is constantly being thrown in your face as a distraction. Chefs really have it hard nowadays.

August 2018 Games – Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Nintendo Switch

Capcom’s beloved beast-slaying franchise is back again this year via Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and will be unleashed exclusively on the Switch on August 28. Chances are that you’re familiar already with Generations, as the game originally released for the 3DS three years ago. Rest assured that this isn’t a dated experience by any means, as the series’ modern-day mechanics will be neatly packed in a card for Switch users to easily pop into their hybrid systems. There’s also a multiplayer component that will take away hours of your time should you choose to play with friends. Who says you can’t be social by playing video games in the summer?

August 2018 Games – Shenmue 1 & 2

Shenmue and its sequel Shenmue 2 are revered classics to some and completely unknown to others. It makes sense for Sega to release updated iterations of the games for Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on August 21, as a third iteration in the franchise is just around the corner. For those unaware of the premise of this series, it stars a young man named Ryo Hazuki who is on a quest to avenge his father’s death. As he tries to confront his murderer, Ryo learns crazy jujitsu moves and becomes a master of quick time events. Each title was revolutionary at the time of their release and they both deserve a candid playthrough, if only to learn a little more about gaming’s history.

August 2018 Games – Little Dragons Cafe

little dragons cafe

Little Dragons Cafe is set to bring the cuteness this month when it releases for PS4 and Switch on August 24. Players are tasked with taking care of their mother’s cafe with the help of a recently hatched baby dragon. They’ll also have the chance to explore their home island and gather resources and ingredients to make the business thrive while their mother is away. As if you needed more incentive to pick this up, it’s from the mind of Yasuhiro Wada, the man responsible for farming sim franchise Harvest Moon. Be prepared to sink a lot of time into this one.

August 2018 Games – Dead Cells

Dead Cells launches on Consoles and PC August 7

Dead Cells is finally releasing on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on August 7. If you’re not familiar with the title already, it’s a Metroidvania RPG with mechanics similar to those found in the Dark Souls series. Don’t mistake this for another clone, however, as Dead Cells will attempt to shake up the formula by placing players on a 2D plane. What’s more is that corridors only become available once certain abilities are acquired, meaning fans will have to pay close attention to their environments. As if that wasn’t enough, the game also grants players a wide variety of weapons to experiment with. There’s plenty of potential for fun to be had through strategic combat in Dead Cells. Here’s hoping it lives up to expectations.

August 2018 Games – Yakuza Kiwami 2

Yakuza Kiwami Demo Kiryu

It’s no surprise that the Yakuza franchise has seen a dramatic rise in popularity in recent years. The series expertly blends badass gang violence with silly comedy to produce something quite unlike anything the medium has seen before. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is set to completely recreate what fans consider the best game in the series, Yakuza 2, this August 28 exclusively for PS4. Though a lot has remained unchanged from the original, Kiwami 2 has promised to add in additional cutscenes to further flesh out the story of Goro Majima. If you’re a fan of action-adventure beat ’em ups, you owe it to yourself to check out the Kiwami series. You won’t be disappointed.
