tell gr multiplayer party games

Tell GR | What’s your go-to multiplayer party game?

What multiplayer party game do you keep returning to over the years? There are some games that just feel right when you play them alongside friends, whether it’s a frenetic racer such as Mario Kart, or a survival game like Minecraft.

But only a few can become mainstays of our evenings with friends. So what’s your go-to party game? We’ve offered our thoughts below, and now we want to read yours in the comments!

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: The Jackbox Party Pack is my number-one choice. Using smartphones rather than controllers really opens it up to a variety of players,  so it’s ideal if you have a lot of friends who aren’t into video games. If I’m playing with friends who do play a lot of games, I’ll usually throw on a fighting game like Mortal Kombat 11 or Soul Calibur 6. Maiming someone with a Fatality is a great icebreaker.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “My favorite go-to party game is Gazillionaire. It’s just such a strange game and it’s a blast trading stuff around the galaxy and wishing for a meteorite to wipe your friend’s fortune out.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: Overcooked and Mario Party are my go-to party games for funny moments with friends. Splitscreen Minecraft with four players is also pretty great for lazy gatherings with fewer people, as it works really well on a large-screen TV.

I’m looking forward to investing in drunk-proof VR (the Oculus Quest, maybe?), as I’m sure that is next stage in party game enjoyment.”

Michael Leri, features editor: Overcooked 2 by a long shot. It’s incredibly easy to play, which means anyone can jump in and scream at each other because goddammit Karen you didn’t grab the tomatoes like I asked. I love playing it with my girlfriend who doesn’t play games but I adore playing it with a group of people. It’s culinary chaos at its finest and a severely underappreciated game.”
