Don’t Forget About These Seven Current-Gen-Only Games

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launch this November, and excitement for these new systems is at an all-time high. That said, there are a number of games coming to current-gen consoles that won't be available on Sony or Microsoft's new hardware. As such, we here at GameRevolution have compiled a neat little list of seven games that you totally shouldn't forget about as you salivate over the upcoming shiny new gaming boxes. Let's get started.

Beyond: Two Souls

Quantic Dream, the folks behind innovative story-heavy experiences like Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, will be releasing its next major title this October for PlayStation 3. Not only does Beyond: Two Souls continue to break the mold by pushing the envelope for in-game storytelling, it incorporates the talent of Hollywood actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. Couple that with the fact that this game is downright jaw-dropping, and you've got a unique ride that will almost certainly feel like a next-gen experience on current-gen hardware.

Dark Souls II

It won't be out until next year, but From Software's upcoming sequel to Dark Souls should definitely be on your radar if you consider yourself a hardcore fan of action role-playing games. Dark Souls II promises to deliver that same level of back-breaking challenge wrapped within an epic world filled with killer bosses and haunting locales. Fans of the original or the PS3-exclusive spiritual predecessor must absolutely hold onto their PS3 or Xbox 360 for this one.

Grand Theft Auto V

There's virtually no need for me to even include this game on the list, but screw it, I'm going to anyway. In less than two weeks' time, before the next-gen consoles launch, Rockstar Games' fifth mainline entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will rock the video game industry. With a massive world to explore, three playable characters, and an ambitious online component, GTA V may not be running on next-gen hardware, but will undoubtedly serve up an experience that feels like it. I'm sure funds are tight as you save up for a shiny new console, but shelling out the $60 for Rockstar's next big thing will be worth the sacrifice.

Gran Turismo 6

Polyphony Digital is the master studio when it comes to developing racing games. There's a reason why Gran Turismo has proven to be one of the most profitable and important Sony franchises, and GT6 looks to continue that trend. Any and every Sony racing fan simply has to pick this game up when it launches later this year. Sure, it may not be as visually impressive as Forza 5 or DriveClub, but the unparalleled sim experience you get from Gran Turismo cannot be matched.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Obsidian has been working hard with Matt and Trey to bring South Park to gamers in expert fashion. In the form of a role-playing experience, South Park: The Stick of Truth, promises to not only provide a fun-filled adventure, but also pledges to pack a whole lot of clever laughs. With pitch-perfect writing that will have you grinning from ear-to-ear, this ambitious RPG could very well be the shining swan song of this current generation of gaming. Fans of the show better keep this on their radar.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Konami's castle-dwelling franchise got a breath of fresh air with Lords of Shadow, and thanks to its success, fans are getting a sequel. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 returns to the gothic world gamers have come to know and love, packed with plenty of epic enemy encounters and killer gameplay. Action fans looking to get a bit more use out of their Xbox 360 or PS3 before packing it away for good should definitely keep it on their radar.

Batman: Arkham Origins

Remember that mind-numbingly awesome action adventure that was Arkham Asylum? How about the equally incredible and super ambitious followup Arkham City? Well there's a third entry in Warner Bros. Entertainment's beloved Batman video game franchise coming this fall to current-gen platforms. It's called Batman: Arkham Origins and while it may not be crafted by Rocksteady, it's shaping up to be a title worthy of the Arkham branding. Just read our fresh new preview of the game from PAX.
