What do you hope to see in Resident Evil 8? | Tell GR

We’ve heard several rumors about Resident Evil 8 lately. One says the game was in development and was rebooted late last year, meaning we won’t see it for a while. Another says it’s been playtested already and will star RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters with enemies resembling werewolves and a ghost-like creature.

Regardless of how Resident Evil 8 turns out, Capcom has revitalized fan interest in the series over the past few years. It’s exciting to think about where the series will go after Resident Evil 3 remake is released in April of this year.

Let us know what you hope to see in Resident Evil 8 in the comments below, and we’ll feature our favorite reply in the next Tell GR!

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “Deep inside, I hope that Capcom just ignores RE4, 5, and 6 and reboots the story post-Code Veronica. I think the series sort of fell apart once the focus was taken off Umbrella, and I’d love to play a new game set during a Raccoon City-like outbreak. Hell, they could even bring Wesker back, sans superhuman powers. I’d love to have him as an adversary again, but have him just be normal, or maybe even a bit physically weak due to having to use a virus to revive himself after being impaled by Tyrant.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I thought Resident Evil 7 was damn awesome, revitalizing the franchise. I liked the first-person view and VR implementation (though the latter was perhaps too terrifying). For Resident Evil 8, I guess I’d like to see more of the same, but with a different protagonist. I’d also like a larger variety of enemies. Rumors point towards (zombified?) werewolves, which I’d be super down with.”

Michael Leri, features editor: “Given the quality of RE7, I wouldn’t mind if Capcom made another first-person Resident Evil game that was sort of a direct sequel. We already have the third-person remakes so that base is covered. However, Capcom, no matter what, would be wise to make RE8 a more scaled back entry. RE7 succeeded because it wasn’t this huge stupid story about viruses no one cares about like RE5 and RE6. It was partially there but the narrative mainly focused on Ethan, his struggles, and the cursed family he had to endure. And, of course, the game should be scary.”
