February 2021’s best games

Destruction AllStars

The PS5 exclusive has finally launched as a free PS Plus game this month, offering multiplayer chaos for up to 16 players. This Destruction Derby spiritual successor features a cast of flamboyant characters duking it out across four different game modes and several arenas, with a single-player challenge mode also included. We said that it was “enjoyable in short bursts,” though may lack the replayability necessary to make it a must-play. Still, PS Plus subscribers should definitely check this one out.

Control: Ultimate Edition

Control: Ultimate Edition launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this month, with us giving it our Editors’ Choice award. “Bundling all of its content in one place is a decent proposition as it was supported supremely well after its launch,” GR’s Michael Leri wrote in our review, “but the technical advancements are what make this “ultimate edition” so ultimate.”

The Nioh Collection

Another big remastered collection, The Nioh Collection combines Nioh 2 and its predecessor into a tidy package for the PS5. “Even though [Nioh’s] sequel is easily the superior, more varied title,” GR’s Michael Leri wrote in our review, “both are still genre-defining action RPGs that provide so many engaging encounters that crush players to a pulp as a means to make them work for their euphoric victories.”

Valheim

Valheim came to Steam Early Access this month, and while it may not be a complete game, many are already calling it one of the best survival experiences yet. Its roadmap has promised players four significant updates and bonuses in the near future.
